Where We Cover in the Austin Metro
We publish what the rules actually say about electrical work across the Austin metro — sourced, dated, and specific to your permit office and your utility. The work itself is carried out by electricians licensed by the state.
Two authorities stand behind every electrical job here, and they do not share a map. Your city issues the permit and inspects the work. A separate utility owns the meter and decides when the power goes on. Each page below names both for that area.

Why this matters here
Service territory does not follow city limits, and this is not a technicality. Austin Energy's own service-area page describes it as covering “all or portions of” ten named cities and communities beyond Austin itself. The City of San Marcos says plainly that there are three electrical providers inside its city limits and tells residents to check a map. Cedar Park is described one way by its own city and another way by Austin Energy, and both descriptions are accurate from where they stand.
So we never answer “which utility serves my city” with a single name unless one name is what the sources actually support. Where more than one is possible, the page says so and tells you to read the top of your bill — because that is the only answer specific to your address.
Why it matters practically. Service applications, thresholds and rebate programmes belong to a specific utility. A programme published for one utility's customers is not available to a neighbour on a different one, and an electrician quoting a service change needs to know whose process applies before the timeline means anything.
3 more areas are planned and not yet published: Georgetown, Pflugerville and Kyle & Buda. They are named here but not linked, because their pages do not exist yet — each is waiting on its utility territory and permit office being read at source rather than assumed. That is the same reason we publish no permit fees anywhere on the site.
