One thing worth checking in any house here that might date from the window when aluminium branch wiring was used — cables installed from 1965 into the mid-1970s. The federal regulator's advice is to read the cable jacket, which is marked every few feet, and to read the whole marking, because copper-clad aluminium is a different thing again.
